RALF `GYPSY` BEVIS

Have been an artist for as long as I care to remember. As a youth it was drawing and painting. As a adolescent it was writing poetry/lyrics, from that it progressed into playing music, which I still do, though I wouldn`t discribe myself as a musician. Sculptors use all kinds of material to sculpt, stone, clay, marble, I like to concider myself an audio sculptor, I try to use sound... I grew up in Germany, England and Africa. Moved back to England from Germany in 1979. Lived in Brighton for the first few years, where I played in various bands, avant garde/punk/Rock type material, performed in clubs and seafront pubs anywhere that would have us really...From Brighton,I moved to salisbury. I stayed with the peace convoy on green lane, was there for the 1984 stonehedge concert, film of that concert can be found on youtube..after salisbury I went back to brighton for a short while but soon moved to London, lived all over London, Earls court, Finsbury park, Brixton, Played in various bands in and around London, though most of the time was spent in the West End clubs, Sound & Vision and Alice in Wonderland, being our main haunts, from what I can remember we had a great time. While in London I ran an independent label called Rodent Tapes, dealing in home recorded and small independent studio produced material. This was then distributed via a network of like-minded labels, musicians/artists, fanzines and friends. Most of the labels were run on a non profit basis. . the internet, still being developed - we distributed our music by snail mail. College and pirate radio stations played our material. After 3 - 4 years of doing this I became restless again and set off to travel, did the Eco warrior thing for a few years, met my wife, with her I moved to Sweden, was there appr. 3 years, but didn`t work out...moved back to england in appr.2004..did nothing productive for the first few years, in about 2006/7 moved to this little town, started to set up my little home recording studios, end of 2007 beginning 2008 started recording again and trying to find old recordings of mine, the master tapes of all my old material had been stolen at the end of the 90`s while still living in london. At the moment I`m recording my music alone and collaborating with various artists. As Heavy Metal Vampires and Trolls on Acid, two bands I first put together and collaborated with in the early days have now recorded new material. That`s about all for now.....
